Who We Are
“The Toungue exists to reveal our heart” John Calvin
The Five Solas that Guide the Christian Walk at Sharon Refomred Church
We believe that the Bible is the supreme authority for faith and practice Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone). This means that all man-made traditions, teachings and governances are subordinate to Scripture. The “Book of Church Order” that we follow is the Bible in which we find the Vox Dei (Voice of God) which guides us through this temporal life and leads us to eternal life. “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16 {ESV})
We believe that justification or being made right with God comes only through Christ alone and not by any works of man/woman Sola Fide (Faith Alone). Unlike the Roman Catholic Church we do not believe that good works save. We believe that Good works are a result of faith and are not a means to earn salvation. “For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.” (Romans 3:28 {ESV})
We believe that salvation is a gift from God and is given by His grace alone it is not earned or deserved due to our sinful nature Sola Gratia (Grace Alone). Mankind cannot contribute to their salvation it; our salvation is entirely the work of God’s unmerited favor. “ For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9 {ESV})
We believe that Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and mankind, and salvation is through Him alone Solus Christus (Christ Alone). We do not pray to the virgin Mary, Saints or relics they can not add to or replace the redemptive work of Christ. We believe Jesus Christ is our Advocate between God and men. “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5 {ESV})
We believe that all life and salvation exist for the glory of God alone Soli Deo Gloria (To God Alone Be the Glory). No matter what great things we create whether that be science, medicine, music, buildings and infrastructure it should never be boasted about because it is a gift from God. All things that we create or do should point to God’s majesty and grace. “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31 {ESV})
Community and Mission Of Sharon Reformed Church
Community of Sharon Reformed Church
The community at Sharon Reformed Church is one in which believers are called to have fellowship with one another to live in unity supporting and encouraging one another. Sharon Reformed Church is a place where you will experience love and accountability. We gather weekly on the Lord’s Day (Sunday) to worship, pray and celebrate the sacraments which is an important element of the Church’s communal life. It is through our weekly gathering to worship which strengthens the bond between believers. “And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” (Acts 2:42 {ESV})
At Sharon Reformed Church you will experience spiritual growth through the study of Scripture. Pastor Jim Peck preaches expository verse by verse through one book of the Bible at a time so that you are seeped in Scripture each Sunday. On Wednesday nights there is an off campus Bible Study. Through solid teaching and mutual accountability you will encourage one another to grow in discipleship and Christlikeness. “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”(Colossians 3:16 {ESV})
You will experience service and care from the body of Christ at Sharon Reformed Church. The Church serves is members by meeting their spiritual, emotional and physical needs. When someone in the community is sick , hurt or in need of prayer you can count on the brothers and sisters of Sharon Reformed Church to walk beside you and share that burden reflecting Christ’s love and compassion for others. “ Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2 {ESV})
Mission of the Sharon Reformed Church
The primary mission of Sharon Reformed Church is to proclaim the Gospel and make disciples of all nations. Starting with the community of Sharon Springs and spreading the Gospel to all the surrounding communities. We realize that we live in a very under churched region of the United States and the mission field starts right outside of the church doors. It is our aim to bring evangelism and missions outside of the church walls so that all will hear the message of salvation. “ And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[b] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20 {ESV})
Sharon Reformed Church is called to demonstrate God’s Kingdom by reflection God’s justice, mercy and love, living as a light in the world. We achieve this through addressing social, economic and spiritual needs and pointing others to Christ through actions and words. “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16 [ESV})
