Garlands. Then Stones. Acts 14:1-20 | The Acts of the Risen Lord | Sunday, October 11

October 11 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

A crowd is a dangerous thing to live for.

In Acts 14, Paul and Barnabas walk into the hill town of Lystra, and God heals a man who has been crippled since birth. The town decides the gods have come down to visit. The priest of Zeus shows up with bulls and garlands, ready to offer sacrifice. Paul and Barnabas tear their clothes, run into the crowd, and point everyone away from themselves to the living God who made heaven and earth and sends the rain and the harvest.

Then it turns. The same people who brought garlands pick up stones. Paul is dragged out of the city and left for dead. And in one of the great verses in the book of Acts, he gets up and walks right back in.

This Sunday we open God’s Word to ask three questions. What do you do when someone hands you glory that belongs to God? Whose approval are you living for? And when you get knocked down, will you get back up and go back in?

Join us Sunday, October 11 at 10:30 AM at Sharon Reformed Church, 6858 NY-10, Sharon Springs, NY. Come as you are, bring your Bible, and bring someone with you. There is always room for one more.
